S1-3 (the Broad General Education)

Subjects taught include:

  • History 
  • Modern Studies 
  • Religious, Moral & Philosophical Education*
  • Geography

*In S2, religious, moral and philosophical education is taught via a course called Citizenship. Citizenship is taught until the end of S6.

Classes are mixed ability.

S4-6 (the Senior Phase)

A range of courses are offered as Nationals (3, 4 and 5), National Progression Awards (NPAs), Highers and Advanced Highers. These include:

  • Classics
  • Criminology
  • Geography
  • History
  • Modern Studies
  • Politics
  • Prince's Trust

Citizenship

With the exception of S4, students are taught one period of Citizenship each week. This is designed to cover a wide range of issues that will help students develop awareness of the world around them, encouraging discussion and debate. Religious and moral education is integral to the Citizenship course.

Topics are considered from a range of religious, philosophical and political perspectives. They include: 

  • Why do we do the things we do?
  • The Left to Rights of British Politics
  • The True Cost of Christmas        
  • Euthanasia
  • Abortion
  • Islamophobia
