Mathematics

In S1- S3, all students continue to work through the national Experiences and Outcomes of the Broad General Education at the appropriate level. They attend 4 periods of Maths per week.

S1 Mathematics

Students are broad banded using information that is obtained from Primary Schools and also from a Transition Booklet that is completed over the 1st few weeks of term.

The S1 course is split into 4 blocks, with a focus on Numeracy in blocks 1 and 2. There is an assessment at the end of each block. All students complete a monthly Rigour Calendar in class at the appropriate level.

Homework is issued once per fortnight. For some students, this will include Numeracy Ninjas.

S2 Mathematics

Continuing to develop on knowledge gained in S1, students complete a further 4 blocks in S2. Again, there is an assessment at the end of each block. We continue to complete a monthly Rigour Calendar at the appropriate level.

Homework is issued once per fortnight, with an expectation that the pupils will also complete some nightly ‘finishing off’ homework.

S3 Mathematics

Classes are set in S3 with students studying courses to help them reach their full potential. Students will follow courses which continue to meet the Experiences and Outcomes of the Broad General Education whilst starting to prepare for National Qualifications in S4 and beyond.
